zibby has pink hair

June 15th, 2007

pink and red

Zibby said she wanted pink hair. I found some temporary spray to try. She said it looks beautiful and she cant wait to show her papa.

In a show of solidarity, I dyed mine raspberry. Mine is semi permanent. Fun for the summer. :)

Well, I am really pregnant now. 28 weeks. I seem much more pregnant than I was with Zibby, if that makes any sense at all. And its really summer, now, too. We’ve been going to the park, the pool, and the beach a lot. I’ve been wearing Zibby out so much that she’s gone to sleep at 7:30 pm 3x in the last week, and slept 12 hours or more. If I can prevent a nap (by avoiding car drives at 4 pm, mostly) then she will likely be asleep by 8. Its wonderful, especially since she has always been a night owl, staying up well past midnight. I know she gets it from me, but I need time, too!

Ive been reading a lot and catching some good tv shows. I am excited about the new season of Top Chef. The first episode of season 3, there was not one single dish that I would have put in my mouth, but it was fun to watch anyway :) I also like Ace of Cakes. They make crazy theme cakes. I do enjoy cooking shows, even if I am pretty averse to cooking lately (pregnancy related)

This weekend we have two parties to attend, so we will be busy, but full of hamburgers and hotdogs, no doubt. :) Hope everyone likes our pink hair :)

Ever since I began this career of Motherhood, I’ve been on the lookout for some real life role models. Say, a woman who already has a kid or two or four, who appears to be doing the types of things I want to do, but dont really know how to yet. And, now, I have several, all really wonderful friends, who just by being in my life, help my on this path. I am really lucky to to know them.

And then, there are the women I really only mostly know from unschooling message boards and their blogs. I was lucky to meet some of them at the Live and Learn Conference last year, but believe me if I lived in Corvallis, or Albuquerque, or Minnesota, or any of the other places these special families lived in, I would be hoping to hang out with them in person.

Ive just had such a fun time online… I started at Zenmomma’s site and then have been visiting all of her links…and found some fun stuff that made me smile and made me think and made me happy to be an unschooler, open to all the wonderful craziness of life.

Just so I can refer back:

Happy Birthday to Buzz

June 5th, 2007

Yesterday was Buzz’ birthday!
He wanted hamburgers, so I got out my Slow Food Guide to Chicagoand looked up “Hamburgers”. I found a review for Jury’s, and off we went. It happened to be Monday, which is their ‘buy one entree, get one free’ night. Lucky us! We had some delicious hamburgers and french dip (for me). Very yummy. Zibby ate her first fried mozzarella stick. I think it wont be her last.
:)

Happy Birthday Buzz! We love you!

The Amazing Acro Cats

June 3rd, 2007

Were, indeed, amazing.

Surprisingly, there werent really that many children there. Quite a few older ladies, though. The woman who runs the show was pretty funny, and the props were an amusing assortment of fairly beat up odds and ends. At one point, when she was encouraging the cats to play their instruments, I remarked to my neighbor that it was turning into Theatre of the Absurd. In a really wonderful way, of course. Zibby and I really enjoyed it on the whole.

my camera broke

May 30th, 2007

during a bad camera handoff between myself and buzz, we dropped and broke a part on our camera. So, Ive been relying on my cell phone (which takes decent photos, but has a delay that often causes blur) but Ive been taking less photos, and therefore have less memories of what we’ve been up to. Pregnancy brain. total mush. plus its hot. hot mush.

today we were planning to go to the park, but zibby doesnt want to get dressed. I dont really blame her. Its 86 out, according to weather.com. I think we are going to have to find a regular pool spot or something to get thru this summer.

Here are some of Z’s recent stylings:

and a really cute pic of her totally zonked out in the car: asleep in the car

and some recent sayings:
“You are cracking me up to nuts!”
“Totally, totally, totally”
“MAMA, I NEED YOU!” (just yelled from the other room)

super day

May 12th, 2007

Today was such a great day!

We all got up around 9ish so we could make my 10 am hair appointment Then we had brunch at Silver Cloud. Zibby had tater tots and a pancake. Buzz had his standard cheese omelet, side of sausage, and white toast. I had biscuits and gravy because lately I am craving bread. (Zibby and I even had to go to Olive Garden the night before solely on the basis of my deep need for their breadsticks)

After brunch we decided to go to the Garfield Park Conservatory to see the sculpture show.

It was a beatiful day (tiny bit chilly and I forgot my jacket) but we had such fun checking out the enormous and enormously fun statues. There was a huge lawn and Zibby ran all over it for a long time while I sat and emailed the photos from my phone to my email. (a bad camera handoff earlier had caused my camera to break a little…the part that holds the battery in snapped.)

We were thinking of stopping downtown at the chocolate factory but I wasnt sure of the address. I knew who would know. And, in fact, when I called, she did know, but was sure they would be closed, and why didnt we come by her yard sale which she had forgot to email about. So we went over and got some cookies and lemonade and I got a new shower curtain, butter dish, and one baby boy outfit. 4 $ well spent.

After all that we were wiped out, so we came home. Buzz got to sleep for about a half hour and then I got about an hour of napping, before we all headed out again for dinner. Barbeque. Our old haunt, Sheffields is opening their restaurant and tonight friends were invited to come taste the food. We had onion rings, fries, mac and cheese, plus Buzz had the burger and I had the 1/2 slab of ribs and 1/2 chicken. Not that I actually had room for all the food, but I tried it all. Very yummy. We even ran into some friends we hadnt seen and everyone got to see how cute and crazy Zibby is. :)

They have a photo booth there, so we took a couple set of photos, and then we came home. Zibby got a bath complete with hair washing ( to remove any vestiges of the bird poop she acquired in it several days ago) and then some tv, and then she fell asleep nursing on the couch.

And that, my friends, is the tale of a super day.

reducing and sparkling

May 7th, 2007

Well, the big news around here is that we are planning to put our condo on the market.

That means we are getting rid of stuff and hiding all of our junk from the prospective buyers :) Basically half of everything I own is now in storage. Whats cool is that I freecycled a bunch of stuff, including my cache of broken and since-replaced digital cameras and camcorder. Someone came and got an 8 year old digital camera that still works, but had low resolution. Someone else came and took my broken camera and dock.

Then I put some other stuff on craigs list and sold it! I even sold an ink cartridge! It was for my last printer, but it was still NIP (New in Package). I just checked to see if anyone else had anything similar listed to find the price I should offer mine for. I got 5$ :) Someone is coming to buy our crib tomorrow. I love recycling!

Zibby and I went to my midwife appointment today. Everything was fine and dandy, and then we went to the park for lunch and to meet a friend. When it got hot we came home and I cleaned while Zibby watched and helped and not-helped and watched tv. I cleaned the ceiling fan and laundry closet (probably hadnt been cleaned since we moved in) and scrubbed walls and removed stickers from everywhere and dusted and mopped some and basically kicked some dust butt. There is still a ton to do, but I am too tired to tackle it today.

In fact, I believe I will go to bed right now. Good night!

zibby-isms

April 25th, 2007

Zibby and I went to the park yesterday and rode on the tater tot (teeter totter)

Zibby is “penguin-ent” (pregnant)

Zibby told me this “Once in a while, I am a boy. And I get lost, and I dont know what to do, and then I come back and I am fine. Isnt that crazy? Crazy Zibby!”

Zibby wants to name the new baby: Zibby, Zabby or Condo.

Zibby names the items in the fridge “jelly, butter, chicken, all kinds of stuff!”

Zibbys favorite phrases recently, “all kinds of stuff”, “once in a whiles”, “yeah, sure”, “in a minute!”
