Murals
We have lots of murals here, at Chez HappyChildhood
This is the first one
Its right inside the front door, on our hall wall. Zibby said its a picture of the world (sort of does look like a globe might) and she can point out “chicago” and “kentucky” on it.
Its done in those oily face pencils, so I never bothered to try to clean it up, figuring that if we ever try to move, we will fix it then.
However, perhaps keeping it has inspired them to keep working.
Zibby drew a picture of a cat on the bathroom door where the catbox is.
Then, on the other bathroom door, she drew a human. So the humans would know where to go.
Most of Zibby’s artwork contains the initials of everyone in our family (J N Z H) plus lots of hearts, I (heart) U, the word yes (her favorite word).
Henry’s art is more abstract.
As a childhood (and teenage) wall writer myself, I completely understand the urge. I wrote the words Vidal Sassoon dozens of times on the wall of my closet when I was in grade school. I just liked the way the words looked. In high school, my room looked like a subway station bathroom with graffiti everywhere. It was awesome until mom painted over it all as a punishment. anyway.
Zibby doesnt just make wall art. She is a prolific card maker and letter writer. She is always making some paper craft to give to a friend or just for fun. She and her friend, Tico were really into making artist trading card sized ghosts, which they would then put on the floor to “scare the cat” in their made-up game of Kittty Trapping.
Zibby and Henry are also fond of coloring on their own bodies. They also like temporary tattoos.
Its all art, right?
