Hot and cold

January 5th, 2009

Zibby has discovered the game of “balloon”, where the goal is to keep the balloon from touching the floor. She and Buzz have been playing it quite a bit, but she also plays by herself. Its funniest when she has to take off all her clothes because she gets too hot jumping around so much.

It made me think about how much easier this winter has been (not that we’re even half way done with winter) with regards to Zibby wearing clothes. The past two years were a serious struggle in the winter, with convincing her to put on anything at all to leave the house. Many times it took long negotiations and much more patience than I normally have. Many times we had to wrap her in a blanket and carry her out the door, under which she might be wearing a leotard and nothing else, not even shoes. Many times plans were totally aborted because I was unable to get her dressed without resorting to brute force, which was obviously unappealing.

However, this year she is more interested in clothes in general, and has a few favorite outfits that dont seem to fail. She is even wearing pants occasionally. I made her a fleece lined cape with hood last year that she wears outside as a coat/blanket. We still dont spend much time outside when its cold, but overall, things are so much easier this year and I am very grateful for that.

brussels sprouts

January 5th, 2009

This is one of my new favorite websites
The pictures are gorgeous and Ive tried some of the recipes and the food is good, too!
I made brussels sprouts for dinner guest the other night.

Ive only made brussels sprouts once before, in my life, and those were frozen green giant ones or something.
These were good. My friends had NEVER eaten them, owing to the sprouts bad reputation, but they both tried them and even asked for my recipe. indeed.

Its part of my resolve to eat more veg and fruit. Green things. A wide variety of colored things. Kale. Peppers. Berries.

Next up, baby bok choy.

Resolutions

January 5th, 2009

Last year my NY resolution was to have our knives sharpened. And I did it! (with Rachels help!) and our knives were sharp and now they are not so sharp, so I will do it again.

This year Id like to resolve to put more tags on my blog posts and pictures online. Then I might be able to find things quicker, and you can too. I never do tags, but I resolve to try and remember.

I’d also like resolve to pay off that one lingering credit card.
And become more active (euphemism for exercise) and eat more vegetables and fruits.

And be an even more fun mom and be on the computer less and spend more time with my husband.

and spend less money on stuff and spend more time outside
and kiss my kids even more than now and squeeze them and smell their skin and make sure they know I really enjoy them.

sounds like a good new year.
