our very long and busy week

July 23rd, 2006

We’ve had a busy week. Monday we went to the park with NUG and even made it into the splash pool there. Afterwards we went to Barrie’s to hang out. Buzz has been working late every night on a big project at work, and its been brutally hot, so I wasnt very motivated to go home and cook dinner. So, we hung at Barries as long as possible :)

Tuesday we went over to Jackie’s. The kids played outside in the pool and with the hose, then Zibby took a nap and Jackie and I got to talk and play with baby Madeline until dinner time. After dinner we went straight to La Leche League. John met us there and took Zibby outside to play while I helped with the meeting.

Wednesday we ended up at another friends house for the afternoon. She has a pool and a few moms were there hanging out. It was really nice and we all snacked and shared our goodies. The kids played in the yard and in the pool until it looked like rain and we left. We actually went over to Mama Tina’s house so I could pick up some posters that I wanted from her. I ended up vegging on her couch for a long time. On my way home, Buzz said he was going to be working super late, so I headed over to Sai Mai (not sure how to spell it.) and got some Thai food to take home. (look what these women have gotten me into, Thai food!!!)

Thursday I went to playgroup, which was only one other mom/kid. We played kitchen, train, and dollhouse. I am really enjoying getting to know the moms in the playgroup, and the kids are delightful and adorable, too. We left and met Circle K for lunch. She took us to M. Henry which I had never been to. We talked about her pregnancy and parenting stuff. We hit the Trader Joes and the toystore afterwards. I got Zib some new puzzles and a new dolly.

Friday we went to the post office, the copy place, the attorney’s, and the beach.
This is the “beach creature” aka, Ruben and Sita’s dad:

It was actually kind of cold and windy at the beach, although the water was quite warm. After the beach we went home and took a bath. Then I had to talk to the attorney on the phone for a bit, and then we headed over to Rachel’s house for dinner. We had fajitas and icecream sundaes. We hung out until 11 and then we went home. Buzz had a Sox outing with work, he didnt get home until after we did.

Saturday after Buzz got up, I went by myself over to the Home Depot for some condo building stuff. Mama Tina called me on the phone and told me that there was some cool thrifts to be had in her neck of the woods, so I zipped down to Logan Square and met up for some shopping. I got some really good stuff for Zibby! Tina has a pretty good eye for stuff, although, I did nab her an awesome skirt that somehow got mixed up in the girls section. After we had been out for a while, Buzz called and said we should come home cuz Zibby was melting down and also my mom had falled and was in the hospital.

So, of course we went home. Tina came with so she could take some self portraits on my computer

I got some more info from my sister about my mom. She slipped on her deck and has apparently torn a muscle and has a massive hematoma. She was admitted for observation and pain control. When I eventually got a hold of her, she sounded loopy, but said it still hurt. I may have to go later in the week to help out, but she is going to be in the hospital for a few days, it sounded like.

Anyway, we had dinner and Tina gave me some advice on how to utilize our space a little better, and some ideas on how to organize stuff in the second bedroom. Then I took her home, came back and watched tv and went to bed. Zibby slept from 7 pm to 5 am, but Buzz got up with her this morning. (which has caused him to be excessively grumpy today). After lunch we went to the new target that just opened by us, which was a madhouse, btw. Yikes. It was really crazy!

Uncle Frank came over and brought food for dinner, and he has just left. I nursed Zibby to sleep, and it is 8 pm. My week is almost done. I think I am going to go work on the 2nd br for a while more and definitely read my Us Weekly. Can you believe that Kid and Pam made it legal? Holy Cow.

this week: Park Day, Pick up yard sale stuff at Susan and Candace’s, Drop off yardsale stuff at Juli’s, Pool on Tuesday, Farmers Market, CHC Parent mtg, GS leader mtg, possibly going to Muncie or Michigan, and going to a festival in Grant Park on the weekend. Whew.

In which Zibby gets hold of a red marker

July 19th, 2006

I knew Zibby had been having fun with the red marker because she colored all over one side of our kitchen cabinets. And the wall by the phone. And the phone.

Several days after I noticed the other markings, Zibby and I both went to the bathroom together. As soon as I sat down, I saw the wall by where her potty is.

I said, “ooooohhh, honey”, with a great big sigh.

Now, everytime we go to the bathroom, Zibby touches the wall with the red markings and says, “oh, honey”.

That’s Cool, Mama

July 17th, 2006

Have I posted about Zibby’s made up words?

She uses two made up words that both mean “other”. One is “tata” and one is “rawga”.
Ex. Tata booby (when nursing), or “no, rawga book”

She had a word that sounds like “aye pinch ooba” but it turns out that it might have been her version of happy birthday.

Another doozy was “too-ey dumps” which we found out means “toe thumbs” which means, “big toe”. Of course, toe thumbs are the big toe. Duh. What else would they be called?

Her new sayings are “that’s cool”, “oh, goodness”, and “oh man”. And, “stop that mama”, “no, no stop that”

She also likes to say “Right back” and “right dere” (which is Chicago-ese for right there”) and “two minutes”.
For instance, I will be playing with her on the floor. She gets up and goes towards the hallway, turns back to me and says “Right back, mama, Right back”. and I say, “ok”.
Then she tells me to “stay dere”. I ask for how long.
“Two minutes”, she says.

And the hand gestures, did I mention those? Its hilarious. She talks with her hands. She gives us the “hand”. She does a crazy dance called the crazy dance, in which she bobbles her head around and sticks one leg out to the side. She loves silly walks and practices several during the day. She and Buzz dance together all the time.

Sometimes she gets up and hangs out with Buzz in the morning before he leaves for work. When he says he has to go, she says, “No, play blocks”. He says, “I have to go to work”. She says, “Two minutes?”

Another thing she does is, if she hears you tell a story about her, she giggles and says “you talking bout me”. Its clear that she enjoys it.

I about crack up when she says, Thats cool, Mama.
It is though. Its all cool.

Tampa takes us to the Faire, plus beach and NPNC photos

July 8th, 2006

Here is me and my dad, who Zibby calls Tampa (grandpa) which is somewhat ironical, since he lives in Miami.

after a very full day
The Bristol Renaissance Faire was lots of fun. We saw two families there that we knew from our homeschool group. One of them runs a shop called St Ives, selling handmade pottery. I bought a tile, some tile magnets and a mini-pitcher that Zibby picked out. Frank took some awesome pictures of the parade and of Zibby and I riding the Da Vinci Flying Boats.

Friday we went to the beach. My brother came and showed Zibby the fine art of making sand-drip castles.
Frank and I spent hours upon hours building elaborate drip castle dwellings on the beach in Ocean Isle, NC.
